BlackBerry Rolls out January Update for BlackBerry Devices Powered By Android
Its the new year now and its too a new month. BlackBerry has started rolling out the monthly Security patch for the month of January for the BlackBerry Devices powered by Android, which includes BlackBerry Priv, DTEK50 and DTEK60. BlackBerry Mercury “Press” Teasers Leaks Out!
The BlackBerry Mercury, is purportedly to be named the BlackBerry Press or DTEK70 and will be unveiled somewhere this week. The BlackBerry Press will be powered by Android directly and it will have a physical keyboard that sits beneath its display like classic BlackBerry devices. Although the device is built by TCL, it is supposedly still designed in house by BlackBerry – much like how Apple ‘designs‘ their devices and manufactured by Foxconn for the matter. Happy New Year!
2016 has passed and now 2017 is here. So quickly has one year passed us yet again and so many changes has happened in the past year. In the past year, BlackBerry officially started a full focus on the secure Android, with BlackBerry Priv, DTEK50 and DTEK60, with the two DTEK’s made by their new official manufacturing partner – TCL. In addition, late towards the end of the year, we saw the roll-out of the OS 10.3.3 update to BlackBerry 10 devices and also saw Facebook withdrawing their apps from the BlackBerry-legacy and BlackBerry 10 platform. With this upcoming new year, we expect to see the BlackBerry Mercury which is the next BlackBerry device with a QWERTY keyboard and more BlackBerry branded android devices to hit the market.
BlackBerry and TCL Signs Licensing Deal for Software and Branding
Since the DTEK series was released, namely DTEK50 and DTEK60 to date, these 2 devices have been manufactured by a new manufacturer (relatively for BlackBerry devices), TCL. Now, BlackBerry and TCL have now officially announced they have entered a long-term licensing agreement wherein BlackBerry will license its security software and service suite, as well as related brand assets to TCL Communication who will design, manufacture, sell and provide customer support for BlackBerry-branded mobile devices. In addition, TCL will manage all sales and distribution and serve as a global distributor of new BlackBerry-branded mobile devices along with dedicated sales teams. What happens to Ingramm Micro for now, remains to be seen. Continue reading

BlackBerry OS 10.3.3 Officially Receives NIAP Certification
Whilst BlackBerry OS 10.3.3 has been floating aorund for the last few days already (we have updated the changelog today too!), now BlackBerry has finally announced it. Apparently, what was really holding the BlackBerry OS 10.3.3 back, according to BlackBerry earlier, was the NIAP certification. Now that OS 10.3.3 is out, BlackBerry also announces that it has now been awarded the National Information Assurance Partnership certification. Continue reading
