Seems like today is the day for many many things. Firstly, happy valentines day to all! For valentines day, BlackBerry is showering all BBM users with some love – in the form of a new update with many more features!
Update: Looks like BlackBerry Legacy devices have also received the update, with similar features, albeit no locational support nor dropbox support, but HURRAY to more emoticons!
The BlackBerry 10 update of BBM will bring with it location sharing, DropBox integration, and new emoticons. This is a pretty sweet update that we have been hearing about in the limited Beta Zone test.
As for Android and iOS users? Well, BlackBerry will release the much anticipated v2.0 of BBM for Android and iOS later today, and with it, bringing along two of the most requested features. They have added BBM Voice along with BBM Channels support now. On top of that we have easy sharing with DropBox integration and location sharing. Here is a quick rundown of what is new:
- BBM Voice: Android and iPhone users can now make free voice calls to BBM contacts over a WiFi® or data connection
- BBM Channels: iPhone and Android users now have access to BBM Channels – active, real conversations between people, brands and communities; users can create a new channel or subscribe to an existing BBM channel to join chats with others who share similar interests
- One-Click Sharing: BBM users on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry devices have access to fast one-click sharing of photos, documents, voice notes and more
- DropBox Integration: Built-in support for Dropbox with the BBM app makes it easy to send large files like presentations and videos; send files from your personal cloud directly to a BBM contact and save files directly to your smartphone or add it to your Dropbox account
- Location Sharing: BBM users can choose to share their live location for a specified amount of time to other BBM contacts, powered by Glympse
- New Emoticons: BBM users will be able to choose from 100 new emoticons
- Larger BBM Groups: Stay connected with up to 50 people in a BBM Group. Share photos, plan events, create lists and chat with friends or colleagues.
