BlackBerry promised that they will do everything they could to make the transition to BlackBerry 10 as easy as possible. And they are delivering it! Now, they are offering three ways to get your data from BlackBerry 7 to BlackBerry 10 along with different routes for iPhone and Android users. Overall, iPhone users will have the hardest time since they have to get their contacts synchronized to a third party service other than iCloud while for Android users, all you need is your GMail account.
RIM posted up some nice guides along with details on how the transfer of contacts, files, and media will work to BlackBerry 10. While we still do not seeing any signs of a Microsoft Outlook Sync connector but I am glad to see that wireless Gmail, Yahoo, and other sync accounts are working very nicely. On the other hand, BlackBerry legacy users get some nice tools that can perform the transfer using your memory card, BlackBerry Link pc software, or simply use Gmail sync through BIS (on the legacy device).
Here is what will be transferred for BlackBerry 7 devices:
- Contacts
- Files (pictures, music, documents)
- Calendar items
- Tasks and Memos
- BBM™ contacts
- Browser bookmarks and folders
- Alarm/clock settings
- Text/SMS/MMS/PIN messages
- Phone Call Logs
- WLAN Profiles (for non-enterprise networks)
- Password Keeper entries
