Well, the U.S. National Texting Competition has ended with the 17-year-old boy from Wisconsin winning the competition for the second time. BlackBerry QWERTY keyboards are well respected for its ease of typing and being very comfortable. However, the current texting contests are all sponsored by LG Electronics.
The U.S. National Competition consists of 11 contestants, who will battle it out today in Times Square. The winner gets $50,000 (€40,000). Competitors can range from 16 to 24 years old. Last year’s champion Austin Weirschke defended his title successfully this year.
The three skills tested are: speed, accuracy and dexterity. So, there are three rounds to the competition: texting while blind-folded, texting with hands behind their backs and Text Blitz, where phrases are shown to the contestants for a length of time and they have to copy them as fast as they can.
It would seem like a killer publicity stunt if some of the competitors showed up with BlackBerry devices to battle against the LG devices. Perhaps people would then see how fast a user can text/type on the amazing keyboards BlackBerry users have come to love. Its good to note that these contests have occurred in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, and the United States. Will you be the fastest finger is we ever have one?
