As we wrap up the year, BlackBerry has shut down yet another program. Built to take in the feedback from users, the BlackBerry Innovation Community Program allowed anyone to propose features and feedbacks to BlackBerry. Although BlackBerry’s decision to close this program is not really much of a surprise us, considering that the program was very much consumer based and do not really fit into the Enterprise strategy that BlackBerry are focusing on, it is a shame to see it go.

Furthermore, the shut down seemed very abrupt, and BlackBerry have not really given any proper explanation of why they closed the program – and no warning, which is more than a little bit discourteous to the users who actually used it.

Thank you for participating in The BlackBerry Innovation Community. Since we launched the Community in early 2014, it has been a rich source of feedback on products and services. Your contributions to discussions and market research studies have helped validate our ideas and assured us that we are on the right track with pending products and services.

As we prepare for 2015, we’ve decided to consolidate how we’re eliciting customer feedback to help us identify new opportunities.

That means that we will be winding down The BlackBerry Innovation Community by December 22, 2014

While the program itself won’t be any big loss, BlackBerry seriously need to look at how they inform users of any program closures. Users who did take part in any program should be treated with respect and given some prior notification of any program closures.
