Review: BlackBerry Passport Leather Flip Case *18 October Update*

So the BlackBerry Passport was released last week, and the launch event was yesterday. So for those of you, whom are wondering, what accessories to get or what accessories are available, well we have you covered. Today, we will take a look at the BlackBerry Passport Leather Flip Case.

The BlackBerry Leather Flip Case will come into 2 colours (for now) which is the brown and black. As you can see, the leather chosen, is the usual smooth kind that we have seen for the legacy BlackBerry devices, that have became thus rare since BlackBerry 10 was released.

Taking a look inside, you will see its a very simple design. But wait, how are you going to put the case on?

Typically, our case would be either to remove the back and snap it on, or just snap it on like a shell totally. But there’s no shell here! Well, this is no typical case!

As you can see, the spot where the device is supposed to be at has a padding? Well, that is actually just a tape like material and you are supposed to “paste” the case onto the device. This durable material is rated to withstand up to 2000 pastes and peels!

Once a device is “pasted”, you can see the end result above.

As you can see in the first few photos above, yes, there is a LED cutout for you, so you can monitor the messages incoming into the device.

Now, here’s the tricky part of the equation. The BlackBerry Passport Leather Flip Case is really just a case. It does not come with power saving technology, which, however, means that it does not put your phone to sleep or turn it on when the cover is up or down.
See below for the update.

So why this new technology for the case? We had a chance to ask BlackBerry and the idea was to keep the device as slim and compact as possible! But of course, the glaring omission of the power saving technology may upset may of you.

Here’s another thing, about the BlackBerry Passport. It did not seem to respond to the magnet sleeper when we tested a magnet on it, but we will need to run a really in-depth test to check it out though. Klein confirmed for us that its does, near the top of the middle of the keyboard.

The BlackBerry Passport Leather Flip case will be available real soon! 🙂

Update 18 October 2014:

After a follow up, we have confirmed that it WILL indeed come with power saving technology and the sets that we had used in the initial demo were faulty. BlackBerry Accessories Team has double checked and confirmed with us, as well as the two cases winner that the case DOES come with it.
