BlackBerry OS 7.1 Achieves CESG Security Approval

Research In Motion has achieved another security milestone. The company today announced that BlackBerry 7.1 has achieved CESG approval. The approval enables public sector workers in the U.K. to utilize the enhanced performance and rich functionality of BlackBerry smartphones.The BlackBerry Enterprise Solution is the only mobile solution approved by CESG to protect data classified up to and including ‘Restricted’ when configured in accordance with CESG guidance. CESG is the UK Government’s national Technical Authority for Information Assurance.

This announcement comes on the heels of RIM receiving FIPS certification from the U.S. Government for its upcoming BlackBerry 10 platform. RIM remains 100 percent committed to the mobility needs of government agencies around the world.

Though this is a little slow as we can see, even the BB10 was already certified by U.S. Government already, but hey, this is still one achievement!
