BlackBerry Jam Asia Round Up

BlackBerry Jam Asia has just wrapped up and RIM is slowly releasing all the developmental tools and info. Apart from that, they are showing us the obvious support from developers especially those in Asia. Remember the Hackathon (JamHack) earlier last month? We too have the final winner!

Check out the excitement on ground at BlackBerry Jam Asia held in Bangkok Thailand from 29-30 Nov 2012, where developers got a first-hand experience with the new Blackberry 10 devices!

The Keynote is now available for watching online:

The winner for the first simultaneous Asia Pacific (APAC) wide 40-hour Hackathon was also announced during BlackBerry Jam Asia 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. Team Inspira from Jakarta, led by Vincentius Putra, was choosen as the winner with their app Soccer Ticker. Soccer Ticker helps users stay updated with the latest football results and remain connected with friends at all times.

The team won the grand price of US$10,000 in cash plus an all-expenses paid trip to the BlackBerry 10 global launch event, BlackBerry App World marketing for two months following the BlackBerry 10 launch and dedicated technical & business consultancy for up to three months after the launch of BlackBerry 10 in Indonesia.

The runner up’s were Hive from Australia and Lifebox 365 from Vietnam. Hive is a ride-sharing servicethat helps large companies optimize corporate travel costs and promotes consideration for the environment by cutting the number of duplicate taxi journeys to one destination. The Lifebox 365 application looks at helping users to accomplish their goals, by logging their progress with picturesand voice clips with comments, as they work towards their objective.

Check out the interview with Mike, an enterprise developer and IT administrator in attendance. Topics covered included cross-platform Mobile Device Management (MDM), BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, and more.

In the following video, the developer is showing off the AR Drone Quad-copter being controlled in real time over Wi-Fi by a BlackBerry 10 device. They even pull off flips! This app was quickly ported to BlackBerry 10 using the new Appcelerator framework that is coming shortly. While this functionality is already available on Android and iOS it is great to see how easy it is to port to BlackBerry 10.
