QNX Reference/Concept Vehicles!

I know this isn’t really ‘new’ news, but I thought it would be nice to put together the QNX concept vehicles that have been unveiled so far. We have the Corvette and the Porsche, now we have the Jeep as well. Oh yea, they are award winning as well.

At CES 2012, the QNX powered Porsche Carrera was unveiled to us and that sexy beast won the CNET Best of CES award 2012 as well.

The car, based on a Porsche 911, takes advantage of TI’s OMAP4 and wireless connectivity solutions, so folks were naturally excited to see what their technology had helped enable.

In addition to CNET, at the CTIA wireless, they also clinched another award there.

There is relatively little information about the corvette though, although this will be interesting:

Now, last but not least, the latest in the family – the QNX powered Jeep Wrangler Sahara!

Like the Porsche, other features include a reskinnable digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, media player, smartphone integration, NFC pairing, and Ultra HD hands free communication. Keep in mind the whole user interface is designed in HTML5!

So now, as we come to the end, here’s the making… of the vehicles!

So now, let’s ignore the infotainment features for a moment. If you had an opportunity to drive both cars at full throttle, which do you think you’d prefer?

I’ve yet to drive the Porsche, and I haven’t had a chance to red-line either car. So realistically, I couldn’t begin to draw a comparison between the two. In any case, the old saw about comparing apples to oranges quickly comes to mind. But for anyone who likes shoot-outs between raw American power and refined European performance, here’s a new Motor Trend video that pits a Corvette Grand Sport against a 911 Carrera S. These aren’t the exact same models used by QNX, but it’s a great head-to-head video nonetheless:
