My Gift From BlackBerry – A.M.P Bluetooth Speakers

On the 21st February 2013, BlackBerry launched it’s first OS10 device: The BlackBerry Z10 in Singapore. Fortunately, I had the chance to get invited to the event, and during the hands on, it amazed me at how the phone performed during my first try. However, today, what I want to write here is not about the Z10.

During that event, there was a contest called the “Best Tweet Of The Day”.

Never did I expect to win something but, hey, my tweet and name was suddenly called up!

My prize is the a.m.p (Antec Mobile Products) Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker & Speakerphone model SP1.

With a dimension of 158(H) x 41(W) x 62(D) mm and weight of 0.38kg. Its so compact, small and light to bring it around with you everywhere. Equipped with a Li-lon Battery 3.7V and the Bluetooh 2.1 + EDR supports the audio Profile (A2DP) v1.2, Hands-Free Profile (HFP) v1.5, Headset Profile (HSP) v1.1. Perfect for handsfree calls where ever you are.

The box comes with speaker, USB to micro-USB cable charger, 3.5 mm stereo input cable and manuals.

More information of the speaker can be found on the Official Antec Website

There are 3 rounded buttons on top of the speaker. Volume Up, Connectivity Button and Volume Down. On the right side, from the top is On/Off switch, 3.5mm Output and Micro-USB Port. You need press and hold the Connectivity Button for about 5 seconds, to connect your device to the AMP Speaker. The LED light on the left side will then blink, indicating that it is in Pairing-Mode. This enables your device to search and pair it to the speaker. The speaker only uses the name SP1.

In my first time pairing up the speaker, I used my BlackBerry Torch 9810. As usual I went under Options – Networks and Connections – Bluetooth Connections – Add New Device and press search. My phone only took less than 30 seconds to find the name SP1. Instantly you may connect with no pairing code need. The speaker then plays a short 2 sec tune indicating that you are now connected.

The a.m.p also works seamlessly with my BlackBerry PlayBook, Ipod Touch 4G, Asus NoteBook without any hassle. Recently, I also brought the speaker to one of my gatherings and pair it out with my friend’s Samsung Galaxy Note and it pairs easily too.

A full charge of it took 2 hours, but the a.m.p speakers could last over 8 hours. What impresses me is the sound capability coming from such a small speaker. Though it’s loud, it’s got a good mix without any excessive noisy bass and is capable of filling up the entire room. The bass is pleasing to the ears, however, how loud the sound is can be dependent on the music quality played from your device, or a YouTube video. My girlfriend loves it as she uses it every time she cooks in the kitchen. We’ve been using it for 2 days and yet to recharge it.

The a.m.p’s rubberized exterior has a nice feel to it, it’s weight is also solid without any plastic-y feel to it. It stays put even in slippery surface & probably capable of protecting itself in an accidental drop. An online search revealed other colors like green and white, and they cost MSRP of USD$99.00.

Lastly, what I’ve got to say is, a.m.p Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a pretty good device. I’m so happy to have won it from the BlackBerry Z10 Launch. Thank you BlackBerry. Me and my Girlfriend love it so much. <3
