PSA: Singtel No Longer Supports BIS

Singtel Ceasing all BIS services

As of 25 July 2016, Singtel has announced that it will cease and stop supporting the legacy BlackBerry Internet Service. This legacy BlackBerry Internet Service was required for all BlackBerry devices to connect securely to the BlackBerry infrastructure and receive email’s, BBM and data both safely and more reliably than any other devices, and at the same time, compressing hence, resulting in lower data usage. This was removed when BlackBerry 10 was launched as we have covered back in 2013. As all BlackBerry devices that relies on this BIS runs on either 2G or 2G-3G only, with Singapore removing support for 2G services in April 2017, it would have rendered more than half of the models useless already. However, despite this, those still clutching on a 3G enabled legacy BlackBerry device (which basically are the more popular 9xxx series such as 9000 or 9780 or 9790 or 9800 or 9810 or 9900), you are unfortunately out of options with Singtel right now. There’s no word from the other two telco’s right now but we suspect that it is a matter of time.

Devices that are NOT affected:

  • Any BlackBerry 10 device including:
    • BlackBerry Z3
    • BlackBerry Z10
    • BlackBerry Z30

For those of you affected by Singtel and still like to stick to Singtel but still like the device, and still like to use it for Whatsapp (maybe unstable) and internet surfing, you can follow our APN setup here on our FAQ.
