Love to travel but hate being disconnected from the rest of the internet? Prepaid SIMs too much of a hassle but data roaming too painful for the pocket? Try the M1 Data Passport if you’re an M1 Customer!

For just $10/month/destination, you get to enjoy data on your line using your  own monthly data bundle without the hassle of switching SIM cards. Excess data charges are also at local rates ($10.70 per GB). The service can be switched on and off as you like it (no contractual periods), but take note of the $2 activation fee.

The service is available for quite a number of countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and USA at $10 per month per country.

Also, if you’re planning a Europe trip, you might want to consider the $50 per month Europe data passport which covers Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweeden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

I’ve personally used the service a number of times, and apart from that one boo-boo where I accidentally terminated the data passport for the country I was going to instead of the country I was coming back from (slight bill shock there, was charged $18 data roaming per day, but my bad), my experience with it has been great.

Unfortunately for Starhub and Singtel fans, this service is only limited to M1 customers. Singtel fans travelling in Australia or Malaysia have a similar offering of 1GB for $10 but do note that excess data charges after 1GB is $0.1/MB!
