‘Conflict Minerals’ are mineral mined and sold to support some of humanities worse actions and bloodshed. As a BlackBerry user, I am very happy to know that RIM is working hard to eliminate the use of such stuff in the manufacturing line of BlackBerry handsets. This survey is conducted bu Enough Project which is an independent NGO. The Enough Project fights to end genocide and crimes against humanity, focused on areas where some of the world’s worst atrocities occur. They accumulate the facts on the ground, use rigorous analysis to determine the most sustainable solutions, influence political leaders to adopt their proposals, and mobilize the American public to demand change.
The chart above shows tech company’s efforts to not use Raw Materials that have been mined to fund a war effort, or mined using slave labour or similar. Of the 24 companies listed, Research In Motion ranks as the 6th best. Hopefully, RIM will continue to improve on this and use less conflict minerals.
