Singtel To Remove Generous Free Bundled Data?

SingTel will launch its 4G services today officially, offering up to five times faster surfing experience for smartphone users whose device support its 4G network. But according to Straits Times, this given extra speed comes at a rather hefty price. All smartphone users, including 3G ones, will no longer be able to enjoy the generous data caps that come with their plans!

Apparently, Singtel will be removing its generous free bundled data of 12GB – or 30GB for a premium plan – that comes with mobile data subscriptions for post paid plan.

So, now under its new pricing scheme, which will kick in July 1, customers will only get 2GB to 12GB of free data download. Every extra 2KB of data used will cost 1 cent – or $5.35 per GB – capped at $94 per month.

I’m not sure if this will cover into BlackBerry plans, but I really believe that it would. And in this instance, it would not affect us since our device (via BIS) are so heavily compressed, unless of course you tether or have Mobile Wifi Hotspot turned on.

What do you guys think?

I think that for BB users, it doesnt affect us much. Unless you tether, as mentioned. This might mean that us BB users will be able to enjoy more usage on our phones come BB10. 🙂

I remember seeing the news that RIM has acquired a company that specialises in data compression quite some time back. Can’t recall the name, but from what all carriers are doing now and cutting down the bundled data, this might prove to be something that will be beneficial to all BB users.
