Visa Europe has certified the NFC packing GSM BlackBerry 7 devices for NFC payments using the Visa PayWave app. This certification is for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Bold 9790, Curve 9360, and Curve 9380 along with the Samsung Galaxy II and LG Optimus. These devices are all GSM because the CDMA variants don’t get much traction in Europe but looks like we have to wait for Visa to approve it in the US (most likely) before we even get it! I am not quite sure what it means but supposedly these certified devices “host the Visa payWave application on a secure SIM card and feature NFC.”
You can check out the whole announcement in Visa’s press release. Anybody else waiting for mobile payments to hit NFC BlackBerrys?
